Why are we called True Relationships? Two Big Reasons.


1.  We aim for TRUE. That refers to  Original Design,  a focus on what works, and rejecting what is false. There are many false intimacies in this crazy world .  Initially they SEEM to work and ultimately they wreak havoc on our lives, our marriages, and our families.  Significant personal struggles often result from them not knowing the truth about what really works. Self esteem, parenting, conflict resolution, communication, and co-dependency are good examples  of areas we can get it dead wrong.


2. Everything Rises and Falls on Relationships. Even counseling concerns that are very focused on the individual usually have  one or more relational connections. Think about it . Anger is typically directed at  someone. Anxiety is often triggered by relational stress. Divorce is obviously the result of two people missing what is true. You can go down the list and connect nearly every malady to some relational deficit -  Infidelity,  Depression, Stress,  Trauma and PTSD, and Abuse.

  • Sue Buttrey

    Therapist

    Sue Buttrey spent her first 11 years as a Pastoral Counselor and in 2020 she became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Ohio. Her work at True Relationships is both a personal mission and a ministry career. Sue says, “As someone who has experienced personal brokenness and healing, God has called me to be His hand extended to the brokenhearted as He brings beauty from ashes.” Sue is proof that healing can happen, and she guides clients to find hope in their own journeys.

  • Sheri Schmitt

    Therapist

    Sheri Schmitt (LISW-S) has served as an Individual and Marriage Therapist at True Relationships since December 2013, but her counseling career started in 1993. She has balanced work in counseling, ministry, and motherhood. Her diverse experience helps her understand her client’s unique perspectives and challenges in the different stages of life. Sheri says, “It’s my honor to walk with people who are hurting and give hope. It brings me joy to join God's work.” 


  • Rev. Tim Buttrey

    President, Co-Founder, Director of Counseling

    Tim Buttrey has served in full-time ministry since 1984. As President/Co-Founder of True Relationships, Tim stays passionate about his work because he loves watching the miracle of broken relationships be renewed. Tim says, “Jesus came to make all things new. For me, there is nothing more satisfying than watching a hopeless, broken couple begin to believe again, love again and, ultimately, move past the events and emotions that nearly destroyed them.” Tim believes in the God of the Bible who said, “See, I am doing a new thing! Don’t you see it?” Tim specializes in Relationship Intensives for couples in crisis.

  • Linda Buttrey

    Executive Director, Co-Founder

    Linda Buttrey founded True Relationships with Tim, her husband, in 2001. They have worked together since then to build the company’s mission and expand True Relationships’ reach into the community and beyond. She serves as the Executive Director.

  • Laurie LaCross

    Pastoral Counselor

    Laurie LaCross served children and families as a teacher and children’s pastor for 21 years.

    Through pastoral care, she has served adults of all ages as well, with compassion and hope in

    God’s healing love. Upon retiring from full-time church ministry, she pursued a

    degree with an emphasis on pastoral counseling. “The privilege to serve others with

    compassion, guidance, and prayer is a joy and honor,” Laurie says.

Our licensed therapists can counsel anyone in the state of Ohio. Video-based therapy is effective and opens up beneficial options. In-Person sessions are available at our Centerville and Beavercreek offices. 


Our pastoral counselors specialize in relationship issues and do not have territorial restrictions on their counseling. Using video counseling, pastoral counselors can help English-speaking individuals and couples anywhere in the world.
